Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure in which a thin camera (hysteroscope) is passed through the cervix into the uterine cavity to directly visualize the inside of the uterus. It helps accurately diagnose and, in many cases, treat conditions affecting the uterine cavity without the need for large incisions.

Hysteroscopy is commonly recommended for women with heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), irregular uterine bleeding, infertility or subfertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, postmenopausal bleeding, suspected uterine polyps, submucosal fibroids, uterine septum, retained products of conception, or intrauterine adhesions (Asherman’s syndrome). It provides a clear view of the uterine cavity, allowing the exact cause of the problem to be identified and treated whenever possible during the same procedure.

It can also be used to obtain targeted endometrial or cervical biopsies when abnormal findings are suspected, aiding in the diagnosis of precancerous changes and cancers of the endometrium or cervix, whenever clinically indicated.
